“Music has a power of forming the character, and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young.” – Aristotle
Ever since Marli was a baby, her grandfather would serenade her with songs on his piano for hours. Wide-eyed with curiosity, she’d sit there watching him in amazement as he’d hash out some of her favorite tunes. When she became old enough to sit by herself, he let her go to town on those keys and oh boy did she jam out! Even if it was just banging on notes at the time, I knew it was in those early stages of her life that she would grow a deep love for music.
Fast forward to a few years later when her grandfather gifted her a keyboard for her 5th birthday. Marli was beyond excited! I taught her what little I did know, but knew it was time to source a professional. Over the summer, we partnered up with Vivaldi Music Academy to enroll Marli in private music lessons. She received individualized lessons with Ms. Letícia, one of the amazing piano instructors at their Bellaire location, each week for 30 minutes. Three months later and still going strong, her progress has been incredible! Her music abilities have grown so much, but the positive impact the music lessons have had on her overall developmental growth has been the icing on the cake.
DISCIPLINE // In a world where instant gratification comes so easily, piano has helped Marli understand the true meaning of hard work and how it can greatly pay off with a little patience and focus. It has also taught her about accepting failure as a positive way of learning. Being such a perfectionist, I think it’s important to teach her that it’s OK to try and fail, but it’s never OK to not try for fear of failure.
CONFIDENCE BOOSTER // Learning music teaches children to take constructive criticism as a positive way of learning which can greatly boost their self-esteem. By accepting her teacher’s suggestions, she’s improved her technique so much. After months of hard work, she finally played her very first real song and the delight on her face was priceless!
SOCIAL SKILLS // If participating in group lessons, a child can develop social skills through teamwork. Plus, it’s a great chance for them to make new friends! Even though Marli is taking private lessons, she has become so much more confident in social settings and I know taking piano lessons has played a big role in that.
EMOTIONAL SKILLS // For as long as I can remember, Marli has had a deep love for the arts. Even with her shy demeanor, I noticed early on how much she relied on drawing, dancing, and music to express her emotions. Learning piano has been an amazing outlet for her to express herself. Even when we’re just listening to songs, I can tell what her “mood” is by the songs she chooses.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT // Playing a musical instrument helps build coordination and motor skills that can be carried over to other hobbies such as dance and sports (a big plus since Marli does both)! Since she’s still young, my husband and I want to introduce her to as many hobbies as possible so she can explore her options. By allowing her to try new things, she can find out what she really loves and is good at so we can focus on those hobbies as she gets older.
BUILDS MEMORY // It’s been proven that learning music is correlated to improved academic skills because it builds their math skills, reading comprehension, and short as well as long-term memory.
So, why did we choose Vivaldi Music Academy? Simply put, their knowledgeable staff, highly qualified instructors, and convenient locations in West University, Bellaire, and Memorial made it a no-brainer for us. The friendly staff at the Bellaire location were so accommodating in helping us find the perfect teacher for Marli especially with our limited availability. It definitely helps knowing they are open 7 days a week to allow busy families more scheduling options.

Besides piano lessons, Vivaldi also offers music lessons for guitar, voice, violin, viola, cello, flute, drums, clarinet, and more for kids of all ages. Music lessons are 1-on-1 for 30 or 60 minutes depending on factors such as age, level, etc. Since Marli is on the younger spectrum, the 30-minute sessions have been perfect for her. Voice lessons are completed in groups for 45 minutes at a time.
They even offer early childhood music classes that are small in size with a narrow age range for your little ones. All tuition options are available on a month-to-month basis so there’s no long-term obligation making it super easy for families to adjust as needed.
If you’re thinking of enrolling your child in music lessons, Vivaldi Music Academy is a wonderful option. You can check out all the great programs they offer along with pricing and location information HERE.

Learning how to play a musical instrument is such a wonderful thing. I agree that it has so many benefits, including higher grades in school. I hope that playing the piano brings your daughter as much joy as it brought me.
