After 25 years of working, my parents decided to retire. They had plans. BIG plans. They wanted to travel the world and enjoy LIFE…the life they missed out on all of these years. So plans were put in motion, but God had another plan for my mom. In 2013 (not even a year after she retired), she was diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia). You hear about cancer all the time, but never think you (or a close loved one) would ever get it. And when it does happen, your world is turned upside down.
She went through her first round of chemo treatments and it was a success…or so we thought. After six short months, the cancer came back, but this time more aggressive than ever. After some research, he put her on another treatment which she just completed a couple months ago. Now, she is undergoing some clinical trials so she can (hopefully) get a stem cell transplant in the future. More visits. More tests. More treatment. This is my mother’s life now. And while she could easily be pessimistic about all of this, she LITERALLY radiates hope, love, and grit. She is determined to beat this cancer and add years to her life – that’s her “love.” And the “grit” is her absolute determination to never give up. There are days when she is tired, she is weak, and there are doubts, but her faith and prayers keep her strong and motivated.
