+ + + THOUGHT OF THE DAY + + +
I love my daughter and I think she’s beautiful – inside and out.
I even tell her sometimes, but I make sure not to say it too often. That’s right.
I’d rather not build my daughter’s confidence mainly with compliments of how pretty or cute she looks because we all know beauty is superficial and it eventually fades.
Plus, I don’t want her relying her on looks to get ahead in life as she gets older.
Instead, I tell her how wonderful she is, how smart she is, how strong she is, and how she is completely capable of anything she sets her mind to.
I compliment her when she performs an act of kindness for others (such as sharing or being nice) so she understands how important it is to think of others.
Yes, she is young, but I know she understands me and LOVES a good praise more than any “pretty” compliment.
I’ve instilled these values in her since Day 1 so she will be a confident little being when she enters the world on her own.
(Update – If you have a minute, read THIS article about how to talk to little girls. Totally agree with it)

I tell my daughter that she is beautiful but I also tell her just as often if not more that she is smart.

You couldn’t be more on the money with this post. We do the same with our girls. We try to put more stock in their accomplishments etc. than other things like beauty.

I’ve started telling my girl all the things I love about her every few nights before bed. I just list them off. Even things such as, you jump so good and I love how you color in the lines. I do tell her she’s pretty but I also want her to know she’s a whole lot more too 😉

Love this post Linh! It’s so important to stress all of these things to little girls. Marli is lucky to have you as a mommy.
