A couple weeks ago, we got back from our California family vacation and guess where my first stop was – to the spa for a facial! I love traveling, but not gonna lie – it does a number on my skin. I make sure to cleanse it thoroughly at the end of each day, but even with that, I still suffer from post-travel breakouts which can be pretty frustrating. Anyone else have the same issue? Anyways, I had been dying to get a hydrafacial and knew this would be the perfect time to try it out.
I can’t even tell you the last time I had a facial. It’s been years! I used to go every 6-8 weeks, but then life + kids happened. Now that I’m in my 30s, my skin needs all the help it can get so I can’t wait to incorporate this back into my skincare routine. Did you know that getting facials regularly has so many benefits for your skin? Plus, if you’re like me and tend to have oily skin that’s prone to breakouts. you need that deep cleanse you just can’t get at home. Plus, it slows the aging process, helps prevent wrinkles, increases circulation, is relaxing, and helps with skin cell renewal. So why each month? Because that’s usually the time it takes for the skin cells to move through a full life cycle of cell growth and make their way to the surface of the skin.
If you followed along on my Insta stories, you saw that I visited one of Houston’s local spas near Rice Village, Vida & Health DaySpa, for my treatment. After speaking with Andrea, she recommended I get a combo of their AquaBella Facial and Rose Petal Facial Rejuvenation. The AquaBella would give me that deep cleanse I needed while the Rose Petal Facial could help with skin renewal, improve my skin texture, and instantly give me that glow I lost during my travels.
The AquaBella Facial is their version of a hydrafacial and it was great. Back in the day when I used to get facials, I hated the extraction step. This part always left my sensitive skin with so much redness and marks for days. Not with the AquaBella Hydrafacial. The facial was completely non-invasive and painless.
The aesthetician started by cleansing and exfoliating my skin with their rose petal milky cleanser. Next, she used a vortex-extraction nozzle to gently remove all the dirt, dead skin cells, keratin, sebum, and other impurities in my pores. It was like a vacuum sucking all the gunk out of my skin and it felt amazing! It wasn’t painful whatsoever, but I did feel a slight pulling at my skin because the suction was pretty strong.
Next up was a step called illuminating goommage. Here, she applied a thin white cream over my face, which was a soft peel to adsorb any dead toxins and dead skin cells. Don’t worry – it did not hurt or sting at all. Then, it was time for the LED treatment. She applied a protector net over my face and I definitely felt like a mummy for a second. Ha! Because I have combo/oil skin and was pretty congested from my trip, she used the blue LED light on me. Additionally, blue light treatments help with skin repair, production of collagen, and can be used to treat acne. Again, not painful at all.
After my hydrafacial, she performed the Rose Petal Facial on me and I wanted to note this part because it was so refreshing. She used these ice cold glass globes on my face. The blue glass globes are supposed to lift and reduce redness, puffiness and improve collagen. The smaller clear balls help promote and restore tissue building.
She finished my facial with a wonderful serum and day cream with SPF. The entire treatment for both facials took about an hour and to be honest, I didn’t want to leave. Can you blame me though?? I instantly saw a glow in my skin and yes, there was some redness as expected, but it was nothing compared to what I endured years ago.
Over the next week, I tried really hard to limit the amount of product on my face because I wanted any leftover dirt to surface and leave my skin. As expected, I did break out around day 5 but it literally went away a few days later. Here are my hydrafacial progress photos right before my treatment, 3 days after, and 11 days after. No makeup (except mascara) or filter in these photos….just a freshly cleaned face and bags under my eyes in the first 2 photos because I was seriously struggling with the time change and jet lag. The last photo was taken that night after I chopped my hair off. 🙂
My biggest improvements from getting the hydrafacial have been a brighter, smoother complexion, smaller pores around my nose area, and the dramatic fading of my blemishes. I had some breakouts/blemishes around my cheek and jaw line and they were almost completely gone within 11 days. My skin isn’t perfect, but I’m convinced the hydrafacial at Vida & Health DaySpa has definitely improved my skin in so many ways and can’t to see more improvements in the next 6 months.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner so if you’re looking for a great gift to pamper your mom, wife, or girlfriend, I bet she would appreciate this. The spa has an amazing month-to-month membership where you can choose from several treatment options, get special discounts on products, gift cards, and treatment packages, and even bring a friend so you both can enjoy the Vida & Health Day Spa experience together! For $75 a month, that’s such a steal. And guess what – you can use code ABEAUTIFULRAWR15 for 15% off any treatment at the spa.
Special thanks to Vida & Health DaySpa for treating me to my very first hydrafacial. I’m hooked and can’t wait to come back again soon! And as always, thanks so much for reading, guys!

I need to book another facial. It’s been a year since I’ve gotten one. But I’ve never done a hydrafacial so i’ll have to see if that’s available at the spa 😉
