Hey guys! I am SO excited about today’s post! I don’t think I’ve ever done a hair tutorial on here, but that’s about to change. With my new hairdo, I’ve been playing around with different styles and can’t wait to share them with you. Today, I’m teaming up with Goody for this pull-through braid workout hair tutorial. It’s like a faux braid meets faux mohawk hairstyle and it is seriously SO easy to do! Now that my hair is shorter, I’ve been toying around with fun and easy updos for my workouts and this is hands down my favorite go-to hairstyle.
It looks fancy, but only takes 1/4 of the time to do and let’s be real – this sporty hairstyle will instantly make you feel like a boss babe at the gym. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial of how to get this pull-through braid workout hairstyle.
STEP 1: Grab a chunk of hair on the top of your head and secure with hair tie. I usually do temple to temple.
STEP 2: On both sides, grab remaining hair above ear, pull to back, and secure with hair tie. DO NOT add the top section to this newly created one. You should end up with 2 sections at this point.
STEP 3: Take the top section, split it in half, and gather more hair on either side to pull back. You will secure this new ponytail UNDER the other section. Notice that I did NOT add the bottom ponytail to the bunch.
STEP 4: Repeat Step 3 until you get to the very bottom. Make sure to gather enough hair on each side so you can “fluff” it later on. Just FYI – I have super thick hair and with this length of hair, I was able to create 5 sections.
STEP 5: When you get to the last faux braid section, secure it with the Goody Ouchless Forever Elastics hair tie. Seriously, this stuff is awesome. Marli can attest to that because she’s stolen half of my stash! They hold my hair in place through all the jumps, kicks, and burpees without ripping my hair apart.
STEP 6: Once your faux braid is secure, we can start teasing it! Slowly and carefully, pull and fluff each section starting at the top first. It’s better to do a little at a time so you don’t completely unravel your braid. I teased mine a little all the way down, then repeated this one more time until I was happy with the volume.
And that’s it! So simple right? You can secure your updo with a few bobby pins and hairspray if you want more hold, but since I was going to the gym, I didn’t add anything else. Let me know if you try this and how you like it! I’m off to enjoy the weekend and you should too! Thanks so much for reading, loves!
