A couple weeks ago, I treated myself to my very first staycation in Downtown Houston and guys, I have been missing out! Up until this point, I didn’t get what the hype was all about. The idea of staying in a place smaller than my home, paying extra for every single amenity, and all the while not even leaving my own city wasn’t quite what I had in mind as a true vacation.
Well, that was before kids. Now, little things like showering in peace and solo trips to the grocery store are my jam. Anyone else in the same boat? Thankfully, this staycation opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of a real vacation getaway minus the long commute. And now I’m hooked!
I asked my girlfriend to join me on this staycation because Lord knows we both needed a break from our kids. And you know what? It was the best decision I made all week! We stayed at Stay Alfred’s newest Houston location on Rusk Street and it was amazing. They currently have 3 in Houston, but are located all over the US including San Diego, Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C., just to name a few. In fact, I will be traveling to Dallas soon and just rebooked with them. Told you I was hooked.
I’ve stayed in my share of hotels + Airbnbs, both of which have pros and cons. This is where Stay Alfred won me over. Their concept is truly unique in that it combines the best of both worlds. On the hotel side, you’re staying in a luxurious space that’s all your own. It isn’t owned by “Joe” so you won’t be sleeping in his bed. On the Airbnb side, the concept is very hands off so there isn’t housekeeping or room service. However, the concierge is amazing at giving tips for dining options and local attractions to see. Because all of their locations are located in downtown neighborhoods, there’s always something to do. My girlfriend and I didn’t even feel like we were in our home city.
And our place was HUGE! That’s because Stay Alfred leases out entire floors from luxury apartments so all the rooms are apartments, condos, or lofts with PLENTY of space. The lobby was all kinds of swanky and I loved all the art deco-inspired pieces. Our place housed 2 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths with a full kitchen, washer, dryer and a king size bed for each of us. To top it off, we got full access to the pool, fitness center, and a rooftop view of the city.
During our stay, we dined at The Grove conveniently located in Discovery Green. It was a short 5 minute drive. Dinner was really good, but that dessert was to die for! If you visit, I highly recommend the Banana Pudding Tiramisu. So good!
For the rest of the night, we threw on our jammies and did what all mamas do when they’re kid-free – dig into our candy stash, snack in bed, watch FRIENDS, and have a good laugh about this crazy motherhood journey we’re both on. I love how far we’ve come as women, how much we’ve grown as moms, and how thankful I am for friendships like hers. It was the perfect relaxing getaway we both needed.
I can’t wait to visit them in Dallas! I’ll be snapping some photos/videos of my place on Instagram when I go in a few weeks if you want to follow along. If you’re looking to book a getaway anytime soon, Stay Alfred is the way to go. Be sure to use YOURPLACE to receive 10% off any location in the US. Enjoy and let me know where you end up staying! Thanks so much for reading, loves. Have a great weekend!
