This past weekend, we gave our fireplace a major facelift and oh my goodness guys. It turned out better than I could have ever imagined! We inherited this unsightly looking chimney when we moved into our home and after looking at it every single day for 8 years, it was time to say goodbye.
I can’t believe it took me this long to complete a fireplace makeover, but better late than never. Since we do live in a smaller home, it was super important for us to brighten up our space. I definitely wanted to create a more airy, open feel that was still cozy and knew updating our chimney would help achieve that goal. I’ll have a more detailed post on the DIY aspects of how we turned our fireplace into the focal point of our living space, but today, I’m sharing how I completed our beautiful fireplace makeover with the perfect home decor from Gordmans and stayed within our budget.
BEFORE THE MAKEOVER
AFTER THE MAKEOVER
I mean, are you in love or are you really in love with how it turned out? All of this took 3 days to complete – one day to paint, another to build the mantel, and one to go shopping for all the goodies. Can you guess which day was my favorite? I’ve raved about the home section at Gordmans before, but if you’re new to this store, I’ll say it again. You really can’t beat their prices. I shop at the one in Rosenberg, but they also have stores in Spring and Humble if you live in the Houston area. They’re pretty big on farmhouse-style decor which couldn’t have been more perfect for this project. These vases were all on clearance for less than $15 each and I love how well the different textures/prints complimented each other. I even found some artificial leaf stems on clearance for $1 each so I snagged them all! I love the pop of green against the white fireplace and neutral colors.
I also picked up this super cute basket to hold our pillows and throws. I never thought about it before, but your fireplace is a great spot to store them so your couch stays clutter-free. I chose the bigger of the two sizes because it was only $9. Yes, $9! This adorable pom pillow and grey printed one were also from Gordmans for $13 each. I think the pom pillow also comes in another color.
For the decor on our mantel, I kept it simple with one large piece and a couple small items. I thought about putting a mirror over our mantel, but I opted for this Bless This Nest print for a more “homey” feel. Guys, I cannot believe I got it for less than $5! I will definitely have to go back for some mirrors to put in our bedroom because they had such a great collection to choose from. I framed one of our family photos with this one I got during my shopping trip and also picked up this globe for only $9.
All in all, I was able to decorate my entire fireplace for less than $100 with these beautiful pieces from Gordmans. Just goes to show you that you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your house a home – just some smart shopping and a little help from this wonderful store.
I cannot wait to decorate our new fireplace for all the upcoming holidays! Maybe I’ll do a roundup at the end of the year of all my holiday and seasonal-themed decor looks if you guys are interested. This is going to be so much fun! If you haven’t visited their store yet, use the store locator to find the nearest one to you. They’re constantly receiving new products daily so you’re bound to find a hidden treasure with each visit.
