Remember that time I chopped off my hair and got a long bob hairstyle? Well, that was 2 years ago! I’ve been growing it out ever since and wanted to share some of my favorite hair products I can’t live without. After having 2 babies and getting older, I can definitely say my hair texture has changed so much. Thankfully, these products have helped keep my hair looking healthy, strong, and shiny during the grow-out process.
HAIR PRODUCTS FOR HEALTHY HAIR
- Joico Moisture Recovery Shampoo / Conditioner: When I first started coloring my hair a few years ago, I was using Oribe and it was awesome, but SUPER expensive. Then, I discovered Joico. This is a great dupe for a fraction of the price. I’ve used their purple shampoo when I had more blonde tones in my hair to help prevent with the brassiness, but now that my hair is darker, this one is great. It repairs my hair while helping to keep it soft and conditioned.
- Kristin Ess Reconstructive Moisture Mask: If you’re looking for an affordable deep conditioning hair mask, this one is great. I usually do deep treatments once a week to help keep my hair shiny and soft.
- Aveda Smooth Fusion Style Prep Smoother: When I cut my hair 2 years ago, I went to an Aveda salon and fell in love with their products. For my thick, frizzy, coarse hair, their Smooth Fusion lines works wonders for my locks. I use this fresh out of the shower before any styling. It does what it says – preps my hair to make styling easier and fights humidity.
- Aveda Smooth Fusion Glossing Straightener: After applying the prep smoother, I apply a small amount of this to help straighten out my waves, add shines, and protects my hair from heat during any styling.
- Oribe SuperShine Moisturizing Cream: If I’m not using my Aveda products, I apply this after washing my hair before styling. It leaves my hair soooo soft.
- Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this texturizing spray! What’s better, it doubles as a dry shampoo and this bottle has lasted me forever. I usually just spray it to my roots and style as needed. A little goes a long way and I definitely pinch pennies when it comes to Oribe products because they are on the pricier end.
- Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask: This is another amazing deep conditioning mask for your hair. I discovered this brand through a PR package they sent and LOVE their products! It is a bit pricier than the Kristin Ess one, but worth every penny because a little goes a long way.
- Tresemme TRES Two Extra Hold Anti-Frizz Hairspray: I’ve been using this hairspray for probably 10 years and it just works with my hair. It’s affordable, doesn’t leave my hair crunchy, and really does help fight this awful humidity we get in Houston.
And, because I colored my own hair a couple weeks ago, I wanted to share my before and after photos using this dpHue semi-permanent hair color. I heard about it through Brooke from Somewhere, Lately and have been pretty happy with the results. This brand is a great alternative from the normal box dyes you find at the stores because it’s less harsh on your hair.
You just apply it to clean wet hair, let it sit for 5-30 minutes, and rinse. Because I didn’t want jet black hair, I mixed the Dark Brown Gloss+ and Black Gloss+ together (about 1/2 of each bottle). The dye is super thick so it won’t run all over the place. The smell is also great – not strong at all. I would DEFINITELY recommend wearing gloves though and applying vaseline along your hairline/ears/neck to prevent any staining. I left my color in for 30 minutes because I wanted to achieve a darker, rich color to take away any brass. A lot of the color did rinse out after the initial wash, but as you can see, it definitely took the brassiness away. Yay!
Lastly, I was REALLY hoping it would cover my grays, but it didn’t. It did darken a few of them (like the ones you see above), but for the most part, I will have to use their dpHue Root Touchup Kit for a more thorough coverage. Overall, I think this brand is a great and less harsh option for those needing a little touchup in between salon visits. Now, I just need an appointment for a trim. It’s way overdue!
