A few months ago, I visited Dr. Bachilo’s office to try a new body contouring service called EMSCULPT. I’ve seeing her for over a year now for my skin concerns and love her entire staff. You can read all about that in my ZO Skin Health and Hydafacial posts. During my appointments, I shared snippets of the process on social media and got such a HUGE response that I decided to make a dedicated post to answer all your questions about my EMSCULPT experience.
Here’s the Q&A and everything you need to know about the EMSCULPT.
GENERAL INFO
(1) What exactly is EMSCULPT?
EMSCULPT is an FDA-approved non-invasive procedure that targets fat and strengthens muscle. This dual action method makes it a great body contouring option for people wanting a non-invasive solution.
(2) What areas does it work on?
The most common areas are the abdomen and buttocks, but it can also be used on the thighs, calves, and biceps.
(3) Is it the same as Coolsculpting?
No. Coolsculpting is also another non-invasive option, but the technique is different. This treatment freezes your fat which your body will naturally eliminate in 1-3 months. You can contact Dr. Bachilo to speak more about this treatment option.
(4) How much does it cost?
Prices vary from $3000-$4000 which are dependent on several factors such as location, doctor, and practice. Right now, Dr. Bachilo’s office is currently offering 50% off ALL non-surgical contouring packages (which is HUGE!). This includes Coolsculpting, EMSCULPT, and Venus Legacy services. Contact her office HERE for a consultation.
ALL ABOUT THE PROCESS
How many treatments are needed? How long are the sessions?
Typically they recommend at least 4 sessions, but your doctor can adjust it as needed depending on your needs. I did 4 treatments (twice a week) and saw great results. Each treatment lasts 30 minutes scheduled a few days apart.
What does it feel like? Does it hurt?
It’s the weirdest cool feeling ever! It doesn’t hurt at all, but you definitely feel the exertion as the device contracts your muscles. The intensity ranges from 1-100 which is adjustable at any time. Over the course of 30 minutes, you complete “sets” of contractions. That’s the equivalent of performing 20,000 squats or crunches!
First are short periods of muscle activation followed by a few seconds of rest. Following this, you’ll experience a few more intense rounds where the contractions are a bit longer. At the end of the entire set, you’ll feel a tapping sensation from the EMSCULPT machine.
This helps break up lactic acid and toxins from your body to reduce post-treatment muscle soreness. Oddly enough, I was using the restroom a ton after my 1st two treatments and Rosa, one of Dr. Bachilo’s staff members, said it was probably due to the lymphatic drainage.
Is it safe? What’s the downtime?
It is FDA-approved and safe for healthy men and women. There is absolutely no prep work before your appointment. Just show up in comfortable clothes and let the machine do the work for you. As for downtime, there’s zero! It’s completely non-invasive.
I have Diastasis Recti (ab separation). Will this fix/help it?
Depending on the the severity of your abs, I think it can definitely help (to a certain extent). I actually have this and although it’s mild, I could tell a difference after my 4 treatments were complete. If you’re wanting to address this this without going under the knife, I would definitely consider this an option and speak with Dr. Bachilo about it.
MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS / RESULTS
Why did you want to get this procedure?
Before this crazy pandemic happened, I had plans for a fun Spring Break trip and wanted some help in the tummy area. After having 2 kids, one of which was a tough c-section recovery, it’s been a constant struggle trying to get my ab muscles toned. Seeing as the EMSCULPT was a non-invasive option, I decided to give it a try.
How quickly did you see results?
Some patients begin seeing results right away, but I began seeing definition in my obliques after my 2nd treatment. Physically, I just felt tighter muscles and engaging them was much easier. By the end of my 4th treatment (picture above), you can see a leaner, more defined stomach. What’s crazy – the progress continued for several weeks following my treatment.
Are the results permanent?
As with any treatment, invasive or non-invasive, maintenance is so important if you want your results to last. Muscle has memory, but if you don’t use it, you lose it. And, seeing as this procedure is pricey, you really have to look at it from an investment standpoint.
I wanted to get this procedure to give myself a boost in the right direction and it really did help. I completed my treatments at the end of February and the photo above was taken yesterday (mid-August). By making healthier lifestyle choices and finding fun ways to stay active, I’ve been able to build even more lean muscle over time with work and patience.
Do you think it was worth it?
To be very honest, I was super skeptical about whether or not this procedure would really help my abs, but EMSCULPT delivered as promised. Personally, I had great results with my treatments and would recommend it as a good non-invasive body contouring option.
It’s important to be realistic about your goals and overall, I was very happy with mine. Not only did EMSCULPT help strengthen my weak muscles and improved my Diastasis Recti, but it gave me the confidence I needed to get back in shape.
I know this treatment may be on the pricier end for most of you, but with Dr. Bachilo’s current special, you can save a ton of money. She’s offering 50% off ALL non-surgical contouring packages on Coolsculpting, EMSCULPT, or Venus Legacy services so contact her office HERE for a consultation and tell her I sent you her way.
Hope you enjoyed this post. Thanks so much for reading, guys!

I like that you mentioned that Emsculpt procedures can help me tone my abs better. Working out has been effective in making me lose weight recently but I can seem to get rid of my belly fat. I think it would be worthwhile to see if Emsculpt can help with that so I wouldn’t worry about it for the next few months.

Absolutely! It can help, but like everything else, you have to maintain it with a balanced diet and exercise 🙂
