Hi lovelies! Hope you’re having a wonderful day and enjoying the last days of October. Can’t believe this year is almost over! Lately, I’ve been working so hard at opening my online store that I’ve been slacking on my beauty & skin regiment. I think any woman with a busy schedule can relate, right? Whether you’re a busy college student, SAHM, working woman, or all the above, it’s important to maintain your routine because it not only makes you look/feel better, but a little self-pampering session is never a bad thing 🙂
After feeling a little frumpy, I decided to get back on board with my skincare regiment you can find HERE, gave myself a little haircut/trim HERE, and did a DIY body scrub HERE after Miss Marli went to bed. I felt a MILLION times better, but noticed little hair stubbles on my arm and my unplucked eyebrows that needed a little TLC.
So, I decided to give waxing a try to remove this stubborn hair. Years ago, I shaved my arms (even though they weren’t even hairy), but gosh, WORST MISTAKE EVER! Anyways, I had the pleasure of visiting Serene Wax Boutique not once, but TWICE, and wanted to share my experiences with you, especially for any 1st timers like me and/or local HOUSTON ladies.
This cute little boutique is nestled in a shopping plaza just a few miles away from the Galleria. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the staff and asked to fill out some information. The ambiance of the place was really chic and cozy so I immediately felt comfortable, especially since I was pretty nervous going into my appointment.
For my first visit, we did a FULL ARM WAX (everything from my knuckles up to my shoulders). She walked me through the easy process and I barely noticed anything because we were chatting the entire time! (It took about 10 minutes.) She waxed my arm in sections and applied a little bit of oil once the procedure was finished.
On a level of 1-10 (1 being none; 10 being very painful), the pain level was a 2-3. Plus, I was in complete shock by how INCREDIBLY SOFT my skin was afterwards! My arm got a little red about an hour after the wax, but it was gone in about 30 minutes. If this happens to you, it’s totally normal. Other than that, I didn’t experience any discomfort or negative reactions to the wax.
The boutique uses a very high quality wax that is very “soft” and “liquidy” (meaning it doesn’t harden when it is applied), which is much gentler on the skin. As for the softness, Jessica explained that with waxing, she was also removing dead skin cells at the same time, which leaves the skin very supple and smooth.
Update: I completed this wax over 2 weeks ago and my skin is STILL really smooth! My hair is slowly growing back, but it feels so much softer. If you are coming back for repeat waxing, you should wait until your hair is at least 1/4 in. long (which is roughly 6 weeks).
For my second visit, I decided to bite the bullet and try a BRAZILIAN WAX, which happens to be their specialty. Epp! I actually wanted to do this the 1st time, but I was scared out of my wits of what to expect/feel. But, after meeting Jessica, I was COMPLETELY comfortable with having her take care of me so that should speak volumes about how WONDERFUL the boutique is! Again, she was very comforting and totally put my mind at ease. She did everything in sections and the entire process took about 10 minutes. On a level of 1-10 (1 being none; 10 being very painful), the pain level was only 4-5. I couldn’t believe it! I honestly expected the pain level to be at least a 7, but it REALLY wasn’t bad at all. (Note: They did reminder me not to drink caffeine 6 hrs before my appointment and take ibuprofen 30 minutes before my waxing, but I forgot…so I drank a cup of coffee and didn’t take any meds…and I did fine 🙂 Whew!)
I am definitely sold on it and will be returning in 6 weeks for another session. If this is a procedure you are considering, but are scared to try or have a low tolerance for pain, they also have a numbing cream available. You can request this for your appointment and come 30 minutes before the waxing to apply the cream.
