Wanna know the secret to a happier marriage? Never stop dating. Ever. My hubby and I have been dating for 10+ years and it just keeps getting better with each year. While date nights don’t happen as much as they used to, I make sure to go all out when we do get a night out. It’s a great reason to dress up for my guy, but more importantly, it’s a great reminder to take some time for myself. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of work especially when I’m trying to juggle mom duties in between, but the end result is so worth it. My husband may not need me all glammed up, but there’s a certain level of appreciation and excitement when I get dolled up for a night out.
As silly as it sounds, I have a checklist of things I do to get ready for the night. It’s usually broken down into little chunks throughout the day. That way, I don’t stress myself out when those “last minute emergencies” happen with my girls.
At the top of my list is shopping of course. I tend to buy clothes in bulk so I always have something on standby, but in the event that I have nothing to wear, I treat myself to a new outfit or top. Don’t think you have to break the bank, ladies! I usually spend less than $50 and trust me, that goes a long way. It’s just a nice treat to put something on he hasn’t seen before. And while we’re on the topic of shopping, I always grab a new pair of panties (and bra if it’s on sale) because hello, date night.
Next up is showering and styling my hair. This might be a no-brainer, but unless you’re a parent, you may not understand. (Remember dry shampoo? That stuff was invented specifically for moms in mind.) These two things have become a luxury for me so I make sure to do both when the girls are napping. That way, I can shower in peace!
Third on my list is getting my skin and grooming essentials in order. Yup, I went there. But really, though, what guy wants a woman who has more hair than him? I know mine doesn’t. I used to shave almost every other day, but Waxing the City has changed my life! If you’re a first time guest, you can receive 50% off their service.
I can go longer without feeling those annoying stubbles on my skin and my hair has actually grown back slower, thinner, and more sparse. I recently visited the Bellaire location to try the brazilian wax. I know – ekk! I was nervous to say the least, but my cerologist, Sherrell, was amazing. She explained the entire process to me, what to expect before, during, and after my service, and educated me on how to maintain my skin for the best results.
So I know you’re dying to know if it hurt and yes, it did for obvious reasons, but not as much as I thought. I’d say the pain level was a 3 out of 10 because she worked in small sections using the hard wax which is formulated for sensitive areas. As soon as she applied it to my skin, it hardened almost immediately. What’s unique about the hard wax is it acts like a shrink-wrap around your hair without sticking to your skin which definitely helps with the pain level. I was in and out in about 10 minutes and it has been a life changer!
Here are a few tips I learned from my cerologist for the best results on any waxing service:
BEFORE WAXING – allow hair to grow at least 1/4 to 1/2 inches, avoid heavy oils on the day of waxing, avoid exfoliating for at least 3 days, avoid sun exposure for 2 days.
AFTER WAXING – avoid deodorants, hot tubs/baths, working out for at least 24 hours, avoid sun exposure for 2 days, avoid exfoliation for 24 hours
TO MINIMIZE PAIN – wait to drink your coffee until after your procedure because caffeine can make your skin more sensitive, you tend to be less sensitive up to 2 weeks after your period
A couple hours before we head out, I turn up the tunes, grab a glass of wine, and start doing my makeup. I love music and it really helps get me in the mood for our date. It’s usually a mix of R&B, 90’s songs, and some major throwbacks from when we first started dating. Nothing like taking a stroll down memory lane to put me in a great mood! What are some of your favorite tunes?
After I’m done with my makeup, it’s time for a dab of hubby’s favorite perfume and making these lips super kissable. I love going a little darker or more vibrant for that extra ‘wow’ factor and it never disappoints.
Last on the list is finding the perfect heel for my outfit. It’s amazing how a killer pair of heels can boost a woman’s confidence. Ladies, find your best asset and flaunt that like there’s no tomorrow!
So tell me, what are some things you do to get date night ready? Is waxing a part of that routine? I’d love to hear! I might try their brow service the next time I visit Waxing the City. They have an entire collection of products to get my brows on fleek!
Be sure to visit their site and take advantage of their 50% off service if you’re a first time customer. Thanks so much for stopping, loves!
